The Doniger / Burroughs Team

STEPHEN M. DONIGER

     In over 10 years of practice, Mr. Doniger has handled a wide range of business and civil disputes in both state and federal court. In addition to handling all aspects of litigation, he has successfully handled numerous writs and appeals. His current practice includes intellectual property protection, corporate governance, contract drafting and review, and large tort and injury cases.

     He has been profiled twice in the Daily Journal (September 1997 and March 2002) which has said that he projects a thoughtful and ethical wisdom, particularly when it comes to practicing law. He has also been featured and quoted in many other articles on topics ranging from apparel industry practices to environmental law.

     Mr. Doniger graduated from Brandeis University in 1992 with a double major in political science and philosophy, and a minor in international studies. In 1995 he obtained his law degree from the University of Southern California where he was a member of the Hale Moot Court Honors program, externed for the Honorable Ronald S.W. Lew of the Federal Central District Court, interned for the District Attorney’s Office in the Environmental Crimes Division, and was a California State Bar Environmental Law Section student writing competition winner.

     In2010, Stephen obtained a nearly half-million dollar verdict on behalf of his client in Federal Court in a case involving copyright-infringing apparel.

SCOTT A. BURROUGHS

     Scott Burroughs resolved his first million-dollar fashion industry case before his 30th birthday. Since then, he has represented clients in more visual art copyright disputes than virtually any other attorney practicing in the United States. These claims have involved clothing and apparel, textiles, handbags, accessories, websites, novelties, paper goods, scripted and reality programming, and home décor.

     Mr. Burroughs has also handled numerous trademark, breach of contract, misappropriation of likeness, and accounting claims in the apparel, marketing and entertainment industries. He has prevailed on behalf of his clients at the summary judgment stage and taken numerous cases though jury trials, and appeals before the 9th Circuit.

     Mr. Burroughs is also experienced in handling all manner of employment claims, from harassment to wrongful termination to retaliation to wage and hour, and has successfully handled class action cases on behalf of consumers for false advertising and deceptive business practices.

     In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Burroughs assists his clients in negotiating, drafting and revising licensing, distribution, and other contracts, as well as trademark and copyright registration.

     Mr. Burroughs obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Diego and his law degree from the University of Southern California Law Center. Prior to joining the firm, he worked at Sony Pictures, Miramax Films, and SFX Entertainment. When not zealously representing his clients, he enjoys yard work and yoga.

ANTHONY PATCHETT

     Mr. Patchett serves of counsel to the firm, and works on a number of the firm’s environmental, tort, and personal injury cases.

     From 1967 to 1996, Mr. Patchett served at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, completing his service as the Assistant Head Deputy in charge of the Environmental Crimes/OSHA Division. As a prosecutor, Mr. Patchett tried over 80 jury trials with a 98% conviction rate. He has since returned to private practice representing plaintiffs and defendants in both criminal and civil matters, and has been appointed Special Assistant District Attorney on a number of matters, including heading a staff of four prosecutors, ten investigators, four law clerks, two auditors and two support staff in the well publicized Ad-Hoc Belmont Task Force investigation of the $225 million Belmont Learning Complex.

     In addition to his private practice, he has served as an instructor for the California Air Resources Board, the California District Attorneys Association, and at the University of California Riverside. He also maintains his license as a private investigator. Mr. Patchett was born in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Elia, reside in Glendale and have two sons, Anthony and Brian.

REGINA Y. YEH

      Regina Yeh is an associate at Doniger / Burroughs APC.  Ms. Yeh graduated from UCLA in 2005 and obtained her law degree at University of California at Davis School of Law in 2009.  During law school, she served as a judicial extern for the Honorable R. Gary Klausner in the United States District Court for the Central District of California and at the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of California.  Prior to joining the Doniger / Burroughs team, she was a legal intern at Warner Music Group’s Rhino Entertainment division.

     Ms. Yeh specializes her practice in intellectual property, media, and business litigation, and speaks Mandarin Chinese.  She is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of California and the Central District of California. 

DAVID R. SHEIN

     David Shein specializes in the enforcement of intellectual property rights for diverse clients throughout the United States. His practice also focuses on Plaintiff’s litigation, representing businesses and individuals in breach of contract matters, right of publicity claims, as well as personal injury suits. Mr. Shein brings with him practical knowledge from the music, television, and fashion industries, having had hands on experience in the creation, promotion, and dissemination of musical recordings and television shows. Mr. Shein was formerly General Counsel to a prominent jewelry, furniture and clothing design company in Los Angeles.

Mr. Shein’s interests include politics, philosophy and the arts. Like retired Justice John Paul Stevens of the Supreme Court of the United States, Mr. Shein is also an avid swimmer.
