Global Law Experts (GLE) has concluded its extensive nomination and research process for the 7th Annual Global Law Experts Awards. The shortlisted candidates were judged on client testimonials, key cases, legal rankings, overall reputation, publication contributions, speaking engagements, and the performance and standing of teams and individual lawyers.

During the recommendations stage, GLE received over 120,000 responses from business directors, in-house legal counsel, independent law firms, high net-worth individuals, bar associations, visitors to the GLE website and LinkedIn users.

Distractify Sued for Blatant Photography Theft

Venice, CA – Doniger / Burroughs has brought a copyright infringement action on behalf of acclaimed photographer Peter Menzel against Distractify, a click-bait site known to post lists of a certain number of things that you will make you feel a certain sort of way.

Distractify’s “content creators” copied from Mr. Menzel a number of photographs that he had created by traveling around the world, meeting with locals, and capturing them on film alongside the typical foods they consume on a daily basis.

Distractify then compiled those purloined photographs into a post they titled “20 People Around The World Share How Much Food They Eat Per Day… And You Might Be Surprised” and published it across their platform. Mr. Menzel’s copyright infringement suit followed.

Doniger / Burroughs Launches Copyright Suit against Target and Wrangler

Venice, CA – Target and Wrangler have been marketing a shirt bearing a distinctive, eye-catching graphic artwork. The problem? Said artwork was taken – verbatim – from copyright holder Jamey Erickson. The infringer then slapped some “trendy” text (omitting vowels is so very hip) and a Wrangler trademark over the key art and started selling to the market. Did they think Mr. Erickson wouldn’t notice? Below is the design comparison:

Doniger / Burroughs Enforces Photographer’s Rights in Iconic Hip-Hop Images

Venice, CA – Doniger / Burroughs has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in Federal Court on behalf of esteemed Brooklyn photographer Dana Lixenberg. The suit seeks to enforce Ms. Lixenberg’s rights in a number of well-known photographs she captured of hip-hop legends Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur during the height of their popularity in the 1990s.

Ms. Lixenberg’s photographs have been misappropriated and incorporated in numerous items of clothing marketed and sold by retailers Forever 21, Target, Urban Outfitters, and Macys. See below for one exemplar of the illicit merchandise at issue in the case:

Ms. Lixenberg seeks to restrain the defendants from the unauthorized use of her photographs, as well as recover copyright infringement damages.
